CCChampions is a Pittsburgh-based 501(c)3 nonprofit that helps kids with cancer through the developmental & social challenges of the disease. We match each child with an inspirational role models who can be there every step of the way.
Whenever a child is newly diagnosed,
we start by asking one simple question:
"What do you want to be when you grow up?"
Whatever that is (a police officer, video game designer, rodeo cowgirl, nurse, bookstore owner, athlete, teacher, clothing designer, chef ...anything!), we match each child with someone inspirational -- a friend who can be there through all the transitions of the cancer journey, just for him or her.
So far, CCChampions has built friendships for over 100 newly diagnosed children in the region.
Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC identified significant changes in the quality of life of our kids, and partnered with CCChampions to bring positive developmental outcomes to child cancer patients across the country.
“Things are never quite as scary when you’ve got a best friend."
Ways to help
sponsor a friendship moment! CCChampions.com/donate
become a role model! CCChampions.com/ways-to-help
We’re always looking for superstar volunteers! Our role models come in all shapes and sizes -- we have Big Champs role models (like bookstore owners, dancers, athletes, nurses, police officers, etc.) and Little Champs role models (students who have significant experiences with kids). Our volunteers visit their child on a weekly to monthly basis, whatever fits their schedule & comfort, for at least six months. Our friendships are built to help kids overcome the developmental challenges from cancer, and we’re here to help every step of the way.
March to Friendship
make a team! MarchtoFriendship.com
Every March, we host “the charitable bracket competition.” People from around the country form teams of friends, family, & coworkers to join in the fun of bracket competitions from March Madness to Best Disney Princess. If your team pools together $250, you become the official sponsor of a newly diagnosed child -- and get all the friendship updates!
Night of Inspiration
attend the celebration! CCChampions.com/inspiration
As part of the alumni program in CCChampions, every child gets a personalized “Inspiration Award” from her role model sharing how she inspired us with her bravery through the cancer journey. We invite corporate sponsors to host these Inspiration Award ceremonies for the child, her family, friends, and role model! And in September, we invite the whole community to join our kids at “A Night of Inspiration,” an evening of awards, smiles, cocktails, and celebration!
